C.S. Lewis tells us, “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in us.” The Lord’s Prayer says, “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.”
We are forgiven and we are called to forgive ourselves and one another. I wonder this week, what is it in ourselves for which we need to forgive ourselves. I wonder for what we need to forgive others.
There is freedom and power in forgiveness. Think of the freedom we have in forgiveness we have received by Christ’s death. We have the freedom to live this life knowing that we have been given through grace the gift of eternal life.
What freedom might we offer ourselves and others through the act of forgiveness?
May the Holy Spirit give us the power of forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in us. If you have a prayer request or just want to talk, email me at pastor@stmatthews-elca.org.
Blessings and prayers,
Pastor Lesley
